World Changers

Do you wake up and think you can make a difference in the world? Or do you think you’re too small to make a difference? This is the question I posed on my blog two weeks ago, along with a challenge for readers to determine how they would use $100 to change the world. If you missed the original post and comments, check it out here. I was very inspired by the responses I received and as anticipated, the task of selecting a winner was quite difficult. Thank you to Beth who provided an additional $100 donation, thus allowing the opportunity to...

Rewrite Your Story

Rewrite Your Story

If you could rewrite your story, what would it look like? I was working with a colleague and this two-part exercise was posed to me. Part 1 – Identify a pattern(s) in your life or your mind that keeps you stuck, keeps you small, keeps you attracting the same outcomes. Are you ready to dismantle the excuses, justifications and stories that are keeping you stuck? Part 2 – Write the story that you wish to release in 2500 words or less. Be as open and transparent as you can be and allow yourself to feel the emotions as they come up....

Forgiveness and Healing

Forgiveness and Healing

Is there a connection between forgiveness and true healing? I had the strangest thing happen to me last week. A very, very dear friend called me to tell me that she had been thinking of me and two words came to her mind (there were actually four words, but bear with me on that for a bit). The two words were “healing” and “forgiveness”, and she told me that she saw them as connected. Well as someone on a journey of healing, she certainly had my attention. But what did it mean? I was totally in tune with the “healing” part and I...

Think You Can Change the World?

Think You Can Change the World?

Do you wake up and think you can make a difference in the world? Or do you think you’re too small to make a difference? I’m reminded of the Margaret Mead quote that I’ve shared several times and have seen many other folks share as well. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” ― Margaret Mead I have been inspired by many people over the years and one person that has been inspiring me for the past 6 months is Lissa Rankin, I’ve written...

Advice to a Friend with Disease Diagnosis

If you were going through a disease diagnosis, how would you decide what to do next? Do you know anyone that has recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or condition? Or someone that has just received a cancer diagnosis? What would your advice be to them? What would you do if it was you? I know a very good friend and a few family members who have been diagnosed with MS, I have several friends that have been diagnosed with cancer over the years, a few family members have been diagnosed with diabetes. Sound familiar? Seems we all have...

Life is Like a Jigsaw Puzzle

Life is Like a Jigsaw Puzzle

Have you ever thought of your life in terms of a metaphor? Forrest Gump eloquently told us that “life is like a box of chocolates” and that is a metaphor that many of us are familiar with. Are there other metaphors that work to describe life? I was reading Martha Beck’s book “Finding Your Way in a Wild New World” last night and she talked about finding a metaphor for everything. For some reason, I started to think about a jigsaw puzzle as a metaphor of life. In the beginning there are so many pieces and it can be...

Do You Have an Olympic Dream?

Do You Have an Olympic Dream?

Will you do the work to fulfill your dream? As summer gets closer and closer, the Olympics in London also draw closer and closer. Athletes from all over the world will convene on the city that just hosted the Queen’s Jubilee. The Olympics are a very special event and I personally look forward to them every four years. I hope Canada does well this year, as I’m sure each of you hope that your country does well this year too. Who are the athletes that compete in the Olympics? They are simply people. Some or many may have been blessed with...

Is Today the Day?

Is Today the Day?

Is Today the Day? Is today the day you have that a-ha moment about something? Is today the day that you start your gratitude list? And the more you realize what you’re grateful for, the more you also realize that you’ve got a lot of good things going for you. Is today the day that you start a personal accomplishments list? And the more you realize what you’ve accomplished so far in life, the more you realize that you really can accomplish anything that you want to do as long as you begin the journey. Is today the day that you realize...

Ego vs Self

Ego vs Self

Do you find that there always seems to be someone in your life that is full of ego? I don’t mean someone who simply talks about themselves a lot, but rather someone that does it so much that it drives you crazy and you don’t even want to be around that person any more. It seems like every time they open their mouth it starts with the word “I” and you hear the word “me” so much that you almost break into song … “me me me me me”. Now don’t get me wrong, those people that know me will be more than happy to tell you that I slip...

Are You a Health Care Evolutionary?

Are You a Health Care Evolutionary?

What do you call yourself? If someone asked you that question, how would you answer it? Some of you might say that you’re a doctor, a lawyer or a priest (that sounds like the start of a joke, doesn’t it?). Others might say you’re a housewife, a factory worker, or an engineer. I remember hearing a friend of mine answer that question in a round circle setting and she said something like “what I do is I’m a consultant, but who I am is something different.” That gave me pause for thought and brought back a...
