It’s Almost the End of 2012 – And the New Mayan Calendar Has Started

I was sitting eating breakfast this morning and realized that this was the third week in a row where I hadn’t posted a blog. I think I only missed two other weeks during all of 2012, so that’s pretty odd for me. My son came downstairs and mentioned that he had just posted his blog, so I took that as a kick in the butt, came to my computer and started writing.

I love doing this, I call it “automatic writing”. I just sit at the computer and write. I don’t question what comes to mind, I just write down any thoughts that pop into my mind. I have actually used this strategy throughout the year to help me through rough times as well as to guide me into exciting times. Some people describe this as a form of meditation, it certainly is something that puts you in a state of “mindfulness”, that being moment-to-moment awareness. My mind is not in the past, it is not in the future, it is simply right here, right now. And I find that very peaceful. Some of you may find that you learn a lot about yourself through the process of automatic writing.

So what should I write about? I’ve seen a lot of posts in the last couple of days talking about taking the time to highlight some of your accomplishments from the past year. I highly recommend that activity. You just might find that you’ve accomplished a lot this year, and once you realize how much can be done in a 365 day period, you might inspire yourself to take on something even bigger this year. You might also find that you don’t write much at all, and that’s okay. Maybe you are so happy with the way things have gone that you just didn’t find a lot to write down. Or maybe you look back and use this as the moment to decide that you have been “standing still”, and are going to take on a new project this year.

When I look back, a few things stand out for me. I won’t do an exhaustive list, but I have fond memories of my healing journey and extremely fond memories of the people I have connected with along the way. I have learned so much about what I call “true healing”, the healing that is “an inside job”, and I have been sharing my lessons. I’ve put myself out there on FaceBook and twitter, I created an audio blog reading of my “Last Lecture”, and just this week I posted a series of videos from an inspirational presentation (“Can You Live A Better Life Now?”) I gave to an audience at an MS Symposium.

When I started what I call my “true healing” journey, I had no idea where it was going to take me. I had no idea what I was going to learn, but I just knew I had to find some answers. My beliefs are a lot different than they were a few years ago, and I am seeing noticeable improvements in my autoimmune dis-ease. That wasn’t supposed to happen. What was supposed to happen is that I was to take the heavy duty medications that were recommended and simply hope that they would control my symptoms. There were no recommendations of what to do to try to figure out the root causes of the dis-ease, only suggestions on how to deal with the symptoms. I’ve learned a lot. I believe that I do know a lot about the root causes that led to the onset of my condition, and I believe that I can help others figure out what has led to the onset of their conditions too. I may not be a doctor, but I have learned a lot about how to “look inside” to get the answers I’m looking for. And you know what, what I’ve learned doesn’t just apply to people with health issues, it applies to people with any type of issue.

I met many new friends, personally as well as online, and believe that we have been co-inspiring each other for the past few months. Mentors, Soul-Full colleagues, Spiritual advisors, and friends have entered my life in a way that I never would have thought possible just a year ago. You know who you are, please take a moment to accept my sincere blessings. You’ve made 2012 a year to remember.

And now it’s time to move on to 2013. The Mayans never really predicted that the world would end in 2012, at least not based on any of the readings I found. 2012 does represent the end of one b’ak’tun in their Long Count calendar, and that has some significance as it only happens about every 7,500 years or so. But, like it has since the start of time, life goes on. And so I spend a moment to think about 2013.

I’m looking forward to the new year. I believe that the lessons I have learned and continue to learn on my journey need to be shared with as many people as I can possibly reach. It’s not about me, it’s about asking people to examine their own beliefs and their own potential. For some it will be to truly make a big difference in the world, for others it will be making a small difference in themselves. It’s also not just about reaching out to people with dis-ease, the lessons I’ve learned apply to everyone.

What seems like it might be just a wee bit too big to happen in one year? That’s what I want to think about. If it’s something I can accomplish in a week, then it’s too small and too easy to accomplish.

Here’s a partial list:

  • I’ve openly declared 2013 as the year to “Heal the Health Care” system. It certainly is needed, the time is now, and I wish to be a big part of this
  • I wish to create a community that shares similar beliefs and helps spread the messages far and wide
  • I wish to share my beliefs with anyone in the media, in the government, in the health care system, whatever it takes to move forward on the changes that will make the system better for all
  • I wish to be a speaker at a TEDx talk, and have the resulting video viewed by many
  • I wish to publish a book about “Awakening the Healer Within”, a recipe for true healing
  • I wish to have several more speaking engagements this year – I love the interaction with an audience, and if I touch just one person in each session, it will be a success
  • I wish to truly connect with several more people and collectively make a huge difference, not only in health care, but in helping people learn to accept themselves fully and completely
  • I wish to use my lessons and gifts for what I call the “greater good”, and translate these into abundance
  • I wish to be looked upon as an authentic, compassionate man that has made a difference in many people’s lives

That seems like a pretty good list for now. Think I’ll have to re-read this blog at the end of 2013 to see how I’ve done.

What does your list look like?

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the Comments section below. If you’d like to be part of a community that is making a difference, let me know by e-mail or in the Comments below.

Ken Jaques describes himself as a Health Care Evolutionary, Community Builder, and Speaker. True healing begins when we treat root causes instead of just masking symptoms. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2008, Ken has experienced many facets of the health care system. As “the only patient who ever lost their hair on this low of a dosage of chemotherapy” – as spoken by his rheumatologist – Ken has been on an amazing journal of self-discovery, a journey of true healing. In his blog, Ken shares stories of how his beliefs have changed over the past few years, and how they are still changing. Is it possible that our bodies can heal themselves? Do we really have to live without hope after we receive a chronic illness diagnosis? These are the types of questions that Ken encourages people to ask themselves as they embark on their own physical or emotional healing journey.

Ken is creating a platform to connect People, Patients, Practitioners, Partners and Promoters, enabling a collaborative effort to help shift the focus on health from I-llness to We-llness. Check out the pilot at www.myHealthyCommunity.ca.

  1. Inspiring on every level, Ken. Maybe you could partner with the Pay it Forward movement in 2013. That would be fabulous!

    • Let’s do it!

    • I couldn’t agree more…both the inspiration and the Pay It Forward. I think I need to compile a list also and in the meantime, thanks always for your thoughts and ability to open eyes….

      • Thanks Andree,
Your kind words are greatly appreciated. Have fun creating your list.
        Cheers,

  2. Hi, Ken!
Yours is a wondrous wish list—and there are many of us who are right behind you, backing you up, supporting and pushing you, too, so you will actualize these wishes and your dreams.
I just finished writing my own three little wishes (intentions) for 2013 on my blog too. I’m keeping on with keeping it simple—kind thoughts (self, too!) + kind words + kind acts = infinite LOVE.
Thank you, Ken. Your energy and wisdom are so inspiring.

    • And thank you eM,
You certainly inspire me too, and it is an absolute blessing to know that I have people like you supporting and pushing, ready to catch me if I fall, then nudging me to keep on moving forward. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in 2012, it’s how important it is to have a support structure in place. You’re part of mine, and I hope I can return that blessing to you.
      Huge hugs, and Namaste,
      Ken

  3. Nice post, Ken! I love your inner-directed writing. Your Inner Director is SO wise!

    • Thanks Ellen,
I bet yours is wise too 🙂
      Cheers, Ken
