Have You Learned Enough Yet? | Message of Hope

Are you still in “school”, or are you ready to start sharing a bit about what you know or believe?

I actually wrote the title for this blog several months ago. I remember at the time that I had a colleague who I felt was ready to start bursting into her own magnificent self, sharing her stories and beliefs with the world. I just love this colleague, yet somehow it seemed like something was holding her back. So I wrote the title, but for some reason I never got around to writing the rest of the blog. Until today.

I’ve shared my story several times about my healing journey – a man diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis goes on a journey to try to understand why there is so much dis-ease, and seeing if there might be some answers available. I’ve learned a lot along the way, I’ve learned an awful lot.

Interestingly enough, I asked myself the same question a few months ago. Have I learned enough yet? Isn’t it time that I started sharing what I’ve learned and how my beliefs have changed? I had been writing a blog to share my story, but it somehow felt like I needed to be sharing my story in a bigger way. I told a couple people that I was going to do that and a question came up a couple times. “Don’t you have to heal yourself first before you can share your story?” Bammm! Zow! Kowie! (that’s for the Batman fans). Here was a shot right straight to the forehead. The question made sense and stopped me in my tracks. I asked myself “who wants to hear a story about how we can heal ourselves from a man who still hasn’t healed himself?”

So I shrunk back into my “little self” and went back to writing my blog. The good news is that I have enough passion about what I’ve learned that I didn’t stop right then and there. Something inside me just kept pushing me to keep going, so I did.

I’ve had a few more weeks to think about the original question that I was asked “Don’t you have to heal yourself first before you can share your story?” Wait a minute. Is that really true? Do people only want to hear a story from someone who has healed themselves, or is that even relevant? Maybe that’s not it at all. What if they want to hear a story from someone who is so passionate about what they believe that it forces them to stop and ask themselves questions about their own beliefs? What if they have lived with fear and without hope for so long, that the simple act of listening to someone that hasn’t given up hope, changes them instantly.

Other thoughts started blasting through my mind. People have been trying to find healing solutions for a long time. We have developed an entire medical system that deals with the symptoms of illness and dis-ease, and we’re still in search of answers. Yet, there are many cases of spontaneous remission from dis-ease, and it doesn’t seem to me that we are spending much time or energy investigating the details behind these success stories. While I haven’t investigated a lot of these cases, the ones I’m aware of all seem to begin with a notion of “I’m not going to accept this ‘NO HOPE’ diagnosis. I DO believe that there IS hope.”

Then I saw this quote a couple days ago.

“Real change begins with the simple act of people talking about what they care about.” Margaret J. Wheatley

I’ve been testing this theory quite a bit of late. I’ve been putting my ideas out in a much bigger way. The response has been unbelievable. Somebody looked me in the eye and called me a “messenger of hope”. What? Me? Little old me? The blogger who can’t even heal himself? Did I miss something?

I went to see a “medium” this week. If you had suggested a couple of years ago that I would go see a medium, I’d have done my best to quietly extricate myself from your presence. I wouldn’t have talked about you behind your back because I was a “wee bit” open-minded, but neither would I have shared your story with anybody (lol, because I was trying to protect you so people wouldn’t think you were crazy). That was then. In my journey I have very much become a believer in the entire mind – body – spirit connection. I believe that many of our physical conditions are representative of something that is out of balance in either our mind or our spiritual selves. I have become much more open-minded, so when a colleague told me that I “just had to see” this medium, I figured that I had nothing to lose, and I may even have a lot to gain. So I went.

While I was driving to the session, I had a thought go through my mind that I needed to write a book about “true healing”. The intent of the book would be to help people understand the factors that contribute to making us sick and the factors that contribute to making us well. It would be a prescription for healing. (Spoiler alert: if that feels like a foreshadowing story, it is).

I sat down with the medium and the first thing out of her mouth was “you’re writing three things”. I told her I had been writing a blog for almost a year. She said, yup, that’s one. Then she said, “I also see you writing a “recipe” book, not a cookbook, but something similar”. Cue twilight zone music in my mind. A recipe book lists all the ingredients for a recipe, then provides the cooking instructions. The “book idea” that I had thought about on the way over would list all of the ingredients to healing, then share my interpretation of mixing the desired ingredients, in the right amounts, into something that anyone would love. Wow! She went on to tell me that this was HUGE. This wasn’t a self-publish book, it was too big for that. Stay tuned for more on this story.

So I bring myself back to my own question. Have I learned enough yet?

Here’s what I believe. I believe that I know all of the ingredients that go into a great healing recipe. I also know that when we’re working with recipes we need to adjust the amount of some ingredients to suit the tastes of different people, we don’t all have the same taste buds after all. I am still working on the right mix of ingredients that work for me. I don’t have all the answers BUT I DON’T HAVE TO! I have never met anyone who has ALL the answers, even in their own area of expertise. But they have enough information to get your attention, and they share it. I also know that this isn’t only about healing from DIS-ease, it’s about healing from anything that is not quite right in our lives.

So I think it’s time to start “talking about what I care about” in a much bigger way (thank you Margaret Wheatley for the reminder). Does anybody have a book agent recommendation?

What about you? Have you learned enough yet? Do you have a story to tell, even if it’s to just one person? Are you going to wait until you have ALL the answers? Do you really think you need to?

I’d love to hear your comments, please share in the Comments section below.

Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2008, Ken has experienced many facets of the health care system. As “the only patient who ever lost their hair on this low of a dosage of chemotherapy” – as spoken by his rheumatologist – Ken has been on an amazing journal of self-discovery, a journey of true healing. In his blog, Ken shares stories of how his beliefs have changed over the past few years, and how they are still changing. Is it possible that our bodies can heal themselves? Do we really have to live without hope after we receive a chronic illness diagnosis? These are the types of questions that Ken encourages people to ask themselves as they embark on their own physical or emotional healing journey.

  1. I feel that we have never learned enough. Life is a journey and we will continue to learn ALWAYS…. except for those, I suppose, that feel they already know it all. What a wall THAT is! Loved your post!

  2. I have learned enough to inform your readers of a Truth you seem to choose to keep under your hat!

A remedy for Humanity’s common “Dis-eases” is available to anyone!

The benefits of Cannabinoid therapy are proven & universal; you are culpable of suppressing a Truth if you
refuse to inform the souls in your environment of these facts!

Why you choose to ignore this Truth on a personal level is something I will never understand, but I perceive a blockage imposed by past conditioning that refuses to permit you to exercise an open mind!

Why is it that YOU NEED to ride the horse of “SufferingWithArthritis” when you have all you need to end that suffering, not only for yourself, but perhaps hundreds of people who read your blog and think you know what you’re talking about!

Ignore my comment if you wish, but I hope you allow this plea: provide MY contact info to anyone who might ask after me.

    Peace Light Love …………….. Truth

    • David,

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback and for calling me out on the topic. And I encourage anyone that wants to find out more about Cannabinoid therapy to please respond to this message as well. I’ll be more than happy to give David’s contact info to you.

Regarding my choice David, let me share my thoughts. I hope you understand that, just because I haven’t chosen to follow your suggestion regarding my personal use of Cannabinoid therapy, doesn’t mean that I’m against it, that I refuse it, or otherwise. The truth is that people have to go on their own healing journeys and do what feels right for them. I know that you are adamant that this therapy will cure my RA, and I totally respect that. Truth is, it just might. Truth also is, that I have to do that in my own time, when it’s right for me.

I have shared your beliefs with several people, I have recommended to several people that they review Rick Simpson’s movie “Phoenix Tears”, I have even signed up on YouTube for further posts regarding cannabinoid therapy. I even took the story to my local politician to see if I could arouse any interest. And I plan to continue on that journey.

Make no mistake David, I am NOT culpable of hiding what you refer to as a truth. I am actually sharing it quite widely.

I AM sharing my story David, and I AM getting people to examine and overcome their limiting beliefs. This is something that you have a passion for. Are you going to share your story?

      Food for thought.

      • OK Dear Bro’ Ken: Thanks for the reply AND the hope that I might elicit some action!

Perhaps the REAL truth that our society can use is the fact that while 90% of our population is mis-trustful of our Governments, 95% are adamant in their trust of their DOCKTOR and “ModernMedecine”, while all the time it’s the GOVERNMENT that runs the MedicalIndustrialMilitaryBigPharma machine that continues to grind away at the global citizenry (sorry, slaves)!

By the way, I feel that perhaps, inasmuch as “CURE” is a word used by the darkness of ALLOPATHIC medical practitioners and their controllers, we should use more precise terminology when discussing this most important issue!

May I suggest “HEAL”? Or “healing”? Wouldn’t “remedy”, “ease”, “relief”,”comfort”,”calm”,”relax”,”fluid”, “clear” or “peace” all be preferred terms?
How about “range of motion”, “supple”, “flexibility”; these are all much more utile and meaningful than a fake word like “CURE”.

        HEAL: now there’s a term I like

I’ve recently come to comprehend the intrinsic evil of much of the language used by “programned” professionals, and “CURE” is a perfect example.

Curing is a word used in manufacturing processes. CUREs are manufactured!

If someone develops a cold, uses Echinacea, Aspirins, a hot sauna, chicken soup, mud bath and sleep and three days later declares himself “cured”, is he WRONG? Yes!
He’s WRONG, but doesn’t realize the lie because he’s unknowingly using a fake word.

He is rid of the cold, but only until the next cold virus invades, so nothing permanent has been accomplished. That’s called “treatingthesyptomnottheproblem”! The “COLD” is a SYMPTOM, not a disease. A “FLU” is a SYMPTOM, not a disease. “CANCERS” – symptoms,
        not diseases.

THE DISEASE is a weakened or deficient IMMUNE SYSTEM, or ORGANIC IMBALANCE –
endo-cannabinoids are an integral part of the metabolism of every vertebrate on the planet; time, evolution and environmental degradation all have led to messed-up metabolisms on every level so providing ourselves with phyto-cannabinoids can only aid in resetting our immune system and achieving SOME PERMANENT changes.

A simple example is, again, the “common cold”; regular users of cannabis don’t get colds – it’s that simple.

        FACT: Regular or daily smokers of pot DON”T GET Influenza; or SARS; or AIDS;
        or Alzheimer’s!

FACT: Regular smokers of pot who also smoke tobacco develop lung cancers at the same rate AS NON-SMOKERS of tobacco!

May I suggest that if you wish, Ken, to assist in comprehending the depths of the power of this Divine Plant, that you watch THIS:

There is much MORE to this than I’ve time for at this point, and typing is the very least of my skills, but I will welcome any direct calls.

For now I’m done, in Peace

  3. Hi Ken,

What a beautiful post and very thought provoking! You have a beautiful and easy way of writing and telling a story….I do hope that you expand upon that and write your book. My impression is that it is going to be very powerful!

Also, what a cool story about the “medium.” I’ve never been to one, but one of my best friends is extremely intuitive and has foreseen serendipitous things before I knew of them. Such a wonderful gift!

I know this post isn’t really about you searching for answers for your RA, but I did want to tell you that my coworker’s wife also has RA and he recently shared with me how she has found a huge amount of relief. I feel like since I’ve been blessed with the information, I should pass it on to you. She has been using some essential oils, mainly blends and a whole food vitamin supplement that reduces the body’s inflammation response and strengthens the immune system. She has gotten off of all of the prescriptions and feeling a great deal of relief still. The specific products are Deep Blue and Lifelong Vitality by DoTERRA. I myself have been using their products for many things, including my allergies which is also an autoimmune response. Anyway, it may be worth looking into for you if you are still searching for answers. 🙂

    Take care!

    Kimberly

    • Kimberly,

Thank you so much for the kind words. I love telling stories, I’m glad you liked this one.

The “book idea” is really taking shape. The thoughts are coming quickly, and they also seem to be melding together nicely. I keep a “Dream Book” (aka journal) with me and the chapters are pretty much laid out. Think I need to go back and listen to the VIS class about preparing my platform. 🙂

I am making note of your RA comments. I am in the midst of my own tests of an even deeper healing, and have had an amazing couple of days. I’ll give that a bit more time to see how it shakes out, then I’ll come back to these ideas depending on the results.

Thanks again for commenting, and congrats on your FB followers – quite a day! 🙂

      Namaste, Ken
