What’s Happening at kenjaques.com?

Where’s Ken?

Well the winter Olympics are starting today, and I’ve just realized that it has been over 3 months since I’ve written a blog post. A few people have asked me if I’ve stopped writing. I haven’t, it’s just that it has been a very different type of writing that I have been doing. Here’s a bit of an update as to what’s happening in my world of late.

I Wrote a Book

For many months I have been telling people that I could write a book in a week. Well I did. Actually, it took about three or four days. The book has been handed over to an editor for review and to see what it will take to bring this into existence. By bringing together several of my blog articles, the book is intended to highlight how my beliefs have changed over the past few years regarding Health, Healing, and Health Care.

Here’s an excerpt from the draft version:

The blogs are written in the first person. While they are my own personal stories, my hope is that you can “step into” each story. Read it as if you were saying the words yourself and see what resonates with you. There are questions in most of the articles. Stop and ask yourself what your own thoughts are as you read each story. The intent is not to get you to believe what I am saying, but rather to get you to pause and examine your own beliefs.

I also hope that you test your own beliefs. Have conversations with friends and colleagues, hear opposing viewpoints, then decide what your belief is “at that time”. This makes you part of the solution, and everything you do to get and keep the conversation going is a great contribution. It is less important to have all the answers today than it is to continue to raise awareness of the challenges we are facing. The answers will come. Maybe you’ll come up with a key part of the solution yourself.

Stay tuned for further updates.

Healing Manifesto

I wrote a personal “Healing Manifesto” and offered it for sale on my web site. A manifesto is a declaration of intentions. On my personal healing journey, I have learned so many factors that contribute to our health and wellness, and I have declared my own set of intentions. I believe that everyone should consider having their own manifesto. We CAN live a happy, healthy life. And we have a lot more control of the outcome than we’ve been led to believe. In my manifesto, I remind myself about key contributors to my own health and wellness. There are many ways to assist in the prevention of illness, and there are many things we can do to help our body heal from whatever conditions arise. A big part of my personal healing has come from learning to examine my belief systems. Is everything I’ve been told really true? Do our thoughts and beliefs have an impact on our physical body? Are there more things we can do to prevent illness? Can the body heal itself? Do we really have to live without hope after a chronic or autoimmune illness diagnosis?

The intent of the Healing Manifesto is to be a “starting point” for people to write their own manifesto based on their own beliefs. You can check it out here.

Heal Health Care Now

Working with my friend and colleague Dr. Lissa Rankin, she has created an online community with the intention of “putting the care back in health care”, and I am the Community Manager. We have some great intentions for the site and it is a work in progress. Even though the site has not officially launched, we currently have over 2700 members from all over the world. It has been quite awesome to see the community grow, and we look forward to seeing how this unfolds. Pop on over and check it out here if you’re interested in finding out more.

IT Business

My main job has been running my own IT consulting firm called Echelon IT Solutions. I recently created a “division” within the company called Echelon Health Solutions, with the intention of providing consulting services to companies looking to find ways to create wellness programs to improve the overall health and happiness of their employees.

Business has been a bit slow and highly competitive for a while, and I am actively seeking opportunities for some of our consultants as well as myself. While many of the other things that I am working on provide a place to share some passion, this is the place I am focusing my efforts in order to generate an income. If your company needs some help with either IT consulting or setting up wellness programs, drop me a line.

Healing Journey and Health

My personal healing journey continues. I have made some very good progress (from an RA diagnosis) and as I continue to uncover more and more about myself, I keep getting a wee bit better week to week.

Lots more is happening but I’ll leave it there at this point, I gotta get back to my other job.

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the Comments section below.

Namaste, Ken

Ken Jaques describes himself as a Health Care Evolutionary, Community Builder, and Speaker. True healing begins when we treat root causes instead of just masking symptoms. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2008, Ken has experienced many facets of the health care system. As “the only patient who ever lost their hair on this low of a dosage of chemotherapy” – as spoken by his rheumatologist – Ken has been on an amazing journal of self-discovery, a journey of true healing. In his blog, Ken shares stories of how his beliefs have changed over the past few years, and how they are still changing. Is it possible that our bodies can heal themselves? Do we really have to live without hope after we receive a chronic illness diagnosis? These are the types of questions that Ken encourages people to ask themselves as they embark on their own physical or emotional healing journey.

Ken is creating a platform to connect People, Patients, Practitioners, Partners and Promoters, enabling a collaborative effort to help shift the focus on health from I-llness to We-llness. Check out the pilot at www.myHealthyCommunity.ca.

Seriously, I chose an angel card today (remember those?), which have been in our little white rabbit keepsake box for years and years, and my word was “healing” so I wrote a post about it.
