Valentine’s Day – A Day of Unconditional Love

Valentine’s Day – A Day of Unconditional Love

It’s Valentine’s Day, and most of you have probably already wished your sweetheart blessings of love. Maybe there are a few people in your life that you consider to be your Valentine, send love to all of them.

What would it look like if we treated Valentine’s Day as a day of Unconditional Love?

Maybe it would be the day that you performed your first random act of kindness. Or if you’ve done this type of good deed before, you perform two, or three, or four, or five of them today.

Maybe you would look everyone in the eye and smile at them as you pass them on the street, in the grocery store, or in the office.

Maybe you would look past the flaws of your colleagues and co-workers, knowing that they’re doing the best that they can with the knowledge and capabilities they have at this time. Maybe when someone does something that would normally piss you off, you simply smile and tell yourself “not today, thank you”.

Maybe the only judgment that you would have would be to enjoy the beauty in everything that you see. Maybe you notice the sun, the sky, the clouds, the trees, the birds, and everything else that nature has to offer, and you offer thanks for the beautiful world we live in.

Maybe if someone did something that touched you, you would take the time to thank them for their efforts.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
Leo Buscaglia

Maybe you take a moment throughout the day and ask yourself what you are truly grateful for. Maybe you even take the time to write out a list.

Maybe you also take the time to offer forgiveness to yourself and others. Maybe that’s another list.

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.”
John Lennon

Namaste, and Happy Valentine’s Day

Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2008, Ken has experienced many facets of the health care system. As “the only patient who ever lost their hair on this low of a dosage of chemotherapy” – as spoken by his rheumatologist – Ken has been on an amazing journal of self-discovery, a journey of true healing. In his blog, Ken shares stories of how his beliefs have changed over the past few years, and how they are still changing. Is it possible that our bodies can heal themselves? Do we really have to live without hope after we receive a chronic illness diagnosis? These are the types of questions that Ken encourages people to ask themselves as they embark on their own physical or emotional healing journey.

Ken is creating a platform to connect People, Patients, Practitioners, Partners and Promoters, enabling a collaborative effort to help shift the focus on health from I-llness to We-llness. Check out the pilot at www.myHealthyCommunity.ca.

  1. Hi Ken,

A lovely sentiment. I was talking to someone the other day who suggested to me that rather than random acts of kindness….why not intentional ones? I can’t recall who said it…but I took it a step forward and suggested “intentional acts of philanthropy!” Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to express our love for humankind…but let’s do it with intention…don’t you think?

P.S. Imagine is my favourite song. I have it on vinyl…sounds even better!!
    Hugs to the amazing Daphne!
